'Deadpool' 2 News Update, Release Date: Sequel In Development; Ryan Reynolds To Reprise His Character
The second installation of "Deadpool" has just been confirmed, and it was by none other than Fox's chairman Stacey Snider herself.
Snider made the confirmation during the 20th Century Fox's CinemaCon, which was held in the afternoon of April 14 in Las Vegas. According to her, the sequel to "Deadpool" is currently in development.
The chairman also disclosed that actor Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role in the film, while director Tim Miller is returning to the fold as the film director.
Aside from Reynolds and Miller, the entire creative team behind the first "Deadpool" movie will also be back, along with the original writers of the superhero blockbuster, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Since "Deadpool" was dubbed as the highest-grossing R-rated superhero film of all time, fans have already anticipated a sequel. Grossing $757.3 million around the globe, the film was also a big help in the career of Reynolds, who reached the lowest point of his career when his movies "RIPD" and "Green Lantern" flopped.
Snider also confirmed at CinemaCon that the "Mercc with a Mouth" will be joined by another character, Cable, but the actor to play his role has yet to be cast. The participation of Cable in the sequel was teased in the end credits stinger of "Deadpool," where his character appeared with Deadpool.
"Deadpool" 2 will premiere other on October 6, 2017 or January 12, 2018. Both dates have been secured by Fox for two untitled Marvel films.
Meanwhile, the first "Deadpool" movie will be available in home video platforms on May 10.
