'Deadpool 2' News & Updates: 'Deadpool' Writers Are Working On 'Zombieland' Sequel

"Deadpool 2" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed during their interview on AMC's "Geeking Out" with Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg that they are also working on a sequel to the 2009 movie "Zombieland."

"That is breaking news that we're on 'Zombieland 2' right now. We're sitting with Woody Harrelson tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited," said the writers, as reported by Comicbook.com.

"Zombieland 2" has been in the works since the first movie was released in 2009, but due to a brief detour in which it was re-imagined as an Amazon series, the sequel wasn't officially confirmed until August this year at the Cinema Con.

The last time that the two writers made mention of the Zombieland sequel, they said that several writers had already tried to pen the script only to fall up short. Since they have already confirmed that the film is already in development, it looks like they have finally decided to stop waiting for someone else to get it right and get things done themselves.

Reese and Wernick suggested during the interview that they were already in talks with the original cast members regarding the sequel, so it is highly likely that everyone will still be on board.

The original film grossed $102.3 million on a budget of less than $30 million, making it a huge hit for Sony on the year of its release. Ruben Fleischer is rumored to return to direct the sequel.
