DC Warner Bros. News: Zack Snyder Explains Why There Isn't A Rivalry With Marvel
It got hard to ignore the elephant in the room when Warner Bros. announced plans to launch their own DC Cinematic Universe comprised of their own superheroes.
The comparisons between DC and Marvel have now transcended from the comics into the movie world, and while the diehard fans will debate the two studios to their death, director Zack Snyder recently revealed that he doesn't see it that way.
"Right from the beginning it is different tonally from where those movies are," Snyder tells Empire Magazine. "You know, DC is an ancient world in a lot of ways."
He doesn't however discourage fans from picking sides, as he understands where the rivalry stems from.
"I can see how people would want to make it this big, intnse rivalry," his wife Deborah adds. "Listen, they are so great. I loved Guardians of the Galaxy...our films are a bit more serious. They deal with things that are a little darker. Things that place them in our world."
Snyder also makes a good point on how Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy really set the tone for his cinematic world, despite it not being included in the series. It gave way to shape how DC superhero movies can be made different from Marvel.
The director spoke on how he's reluctant to not be working on the solo Batman film, and why its not the next film in his movie slate.
''If it was a Batman movie it would be a much more difficult proposition because of how good Chris' movies are. We live in gratiitude to those movies. Chris set a tone for the DC Universe, and separated us from Marvel in a great way. We are the legacy pf those movies."
