DC New Movie News: Release Dates for 'Justice League: Gods and Monsters', 'Batman: The Killing Joke' & More Announced
Warner Bros held the world premiere of the animated movie with DC comics, called Justice League: Gods and Monsters at Comic Con, but fans of the superheroes had another treat in store.
Bruce W. Timm announced at the panel that the next original movie coming from the DC Universe would be an adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke.
Timm will executive produce the animated superhero movie, which will feature "an original fifteen minute prologue that helps to set up the story, giving even longtime fans of the story something new to look forward to."
None of the cast members set to voice the animated characters were announced, however the debut of the movie is planned for sometime in 2016.
Batman: The Killing Joke is a seminal graphic novel written by Alan Moore and drawn by Brian Bolland.
The film offers a potential origin for the Joker, which led to a paralyzed Barbara Gordon to retire from her position as Batgirl temporarily.
For years, this film has been one of the most regularly requested by fans.
In addition, two other animated movies were announced at the panel. These include Batman: Bat Blood and Justice League vs. Titans.
Batman: Bat Blood is an original Batman story which features the introduction of Batwoman to the new line of animated films.
Justice League vs. Titans is another original story, and will be the first film from DC Universe Original Movies to feature the Teen Titans.
The Joker celebrates his 75th anniversary this year, so Batman: The Killing Joke is right on time in terms of being announced. It will be in theaters in 2016.
