The makers of 'Dark Places' had promised that the movie will be a gritty thriller and the latest trailer of the movie released in the U.S. shows that the promise has been kept.
Based on the mystery novel by Gillian Flynn by the same name, 'Dark Places' deals with class issues in rural America, intense poverty and the Satanic cult. According to Latin Post, the film starring Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult is scheduled to be released in August this year.
A recent report in Variety states that as A24 and DirecTV have jointly acquired the rights to the movie, the film is currently available on DirecTV Cinema until Aug. 6. 'Dark Places' will hit the theaters on Aug. 7.
Apart from Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, 'Dark Places' also stars Corey Stoll, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan and Chloe Grace Moretz. It is expected that with such an impressive ensemble cast, the movie will be an impressive thriller, particularly considering the fact that the 'Walled In' famed director Gilles Paquet Brenner has not only written the script of the film, but is also at the helm of production.
The film has been produced by Beth Kono, Cathy Schulman, AJ Dix, Stephane Marsil, Matthew Rhodes, Azim Bolkiah, Matt Jackson, and Theron, herself. On the other hand, the film has a long list of executive producers including Matthias Ehrenberg, Guy East, Nigel Sinclair, Jeff Rice, Jose Levy, Tobin Armburst, Peter Safran, Jillian Longnecker and Ginger Sledge.
According to the description in the film's IMDB page, 'Dark Places' is all about a mature woman who is compelled to encounter the frightening events she once survived as a child. The synopsis of 'Dark Places' states that Libby, portrayed by Theron, was just an 8-year-old child when she survived the killing of her family; and she testified against her brother, saying that he murdered their mother and two sisters.
Elsewhere, a secret society obsessed with solving shocking crimes will go to any length to compel Libby to succumb to their demands eventually. As she gets deeper into the society, Libby starts questioning what she witnessed the night of the crime, since she become conscious of the fact that many people do not believe that her brother was responsible for the killings.
Meanwhile, Lyle, portrayed by Hoult, is a member of the secret society and decides to help Libby in her investigation to expose whether or not her brother was actually guilty.
