'Daredevil' Cast News: Jon Bernthal Shows Which 'Punisher' Comics He's Researching
Fans have all been outspoken with their excitement for actor Jon Berthal to portray The Punisher in next season of Marvel's 'Daredevil' series, however the actor has said very little on what he plans to bring to the role.
He's instead decided to show fans how he's preparing for the role by showing the current Punisher comics he's researching. He's been frequently posting the issues he's picked up at Hypnocomics in Ventura to his Instagram.
Hypnocomics posted this caption on their picture with the actor:
"Jon Bernthal liked the stuff I gave him to read, hooked up again today. He's doing his work! It feels good to know I'm helping my favorite Superhero show in some small way. #punisher #daredevil #netflix #marvel #hype #nerdnews #hypnocomics"
According to GeekTyrant, here are the issues he's been looking into:
- A 1986 issue of Punisher: Circle of Blood, where Castle meets the Punishment Squad. He also lies about killing the Kingpin, which starts a massive gang war in the process.
- Then there's Garth Ennis' 2009 Punisher: War Zone - The Resurrection of Ma Gnucci, which features Castle attempting to take out the Gnucci family.
- A 2010 issue of Punisher MAX which centers on Castle in prison. While there he reflects on his family and the violently insane life he's chosen for himself.
Over the years, much like other comic book characters, there have been various takes on The Punisher, however he's always managed to embody a "do whatever it takes" persona. He often teeters the line of hero and villain which is what makes his anti-heroism so intriguing.
'Daredevil' season 2 plans to premiere early next year.
