Dallas Mavericks NBA Rumors, News 2015: Mavs Looking to Land Amar’e Stoudemire?
The Dallas Mavericks are aggressively looking to shore up their big man rotation, and have emerged as front-runners to sign veteran slot man Amar'e Stoudemire should the 13-year vet decide to pursue a contract buyout from the New York Knicks, ESPN reports.
Recently, Stoudemire expressed that he plans to use the all-star break to ponder on his future this season, with a contract buyout that would enable him to sign with a playoff contender a main option for the former all-star.
"It's not an easy decision to make. Over time, we will see how things pan out. You give yourself a break during the all-star break. You think about it with your family. That will give me a good solid week on how to weigh out the rest of the season," Stoudemire told Yahoo! Sports.
He is in the final year of his five-year $100 million deal for the Knicks who have the second-worst record in the league at 10-39. His $23.4 million salary this season makes him virtually untradeable.
Apart from Stoudemire, the Mavs are reportedly also keen on signing another former all-star big, Jermaine O'Neal. Citing sources, ESPN reported that the Mavs are open to making roster moves to accommodate both Stoudemire and O'Neal if the two becomes available.
Dallas has been looking to add size since dealing away Brandan Wright and Jae Crowder to acquire guard Rajon Rondo.
"All possibilities at this point are still open. But at the same time, I am with the Knicks now. I got to stay optimistic about things and what we are doing here. I can't really focus on the future because it's not here," Stoudemire said of his possible buyout.
The 32-year-old is averaging 12.1 points and 6.9 rebounds in 33 games with the Knicks this season.
The Mavs are currently at 34-18, good for sixth in the insanely competitive Western Conference.
