Dallas Mavericks NBA 2015 Rumors: DeAndre Jordan Agrees to a Four-Year, $80 Million Deal with Mavs?
It appears Chandler Parsons is the league's best at recruiting top-flight centers as DeAndre Jordan has reportedly agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks for a four-year, $80 million deal, as reported by CBSSports.com's Ken Berger.
The 27-year-old was among the few big names that appeared to truly consider switching teams coming into free agency. Apart from his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Mavs, the New York Knicks were among those reportedly in hot pursuit of the athletic big man.
He joins a Mavs team with one of the best coaches in the league and a core of Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki, and fellow newcomer Wes Matthews, who reportedly also agreed to a four-year deal with the Dallas.
Jordan spent his first seven seasons with the Clippers, and in recent seasons, has become one of the league's best rim protectors and rebounders. Last season, he averaged 11.5 points, 15 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.
While the Mavs roster still has a number of holes to fill with the departure of Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo, Jordan makes Dallas an enticing destination for still available free agents, and should tilt the balance of power in the competitive Western Conference.
The Clippers, for their part, will look to fill the massive void left by their defensive fulcrum. They are now rumored to be shopping former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford for a center. David West, who recently opted out of the Indiana Pacers, is reportedly interested in coming over to Los Angeles, while Memphis Grizzlies center Kosta Koufos has reportedly become a potential sign-and-trade target for the Clippers.
After the Clippers' season ended, rumors of a strain in Jordan and point guard Chris Paul surfaced. As Berger wrote, "On one hand, there was Jordan's relationship with Clippers All-Star Chris Paul, which sources told CBSSports.com, was demonstrably poor. These things are never one man's fault, but they believe that Jordan's relationship with the man who got him the ball in LA played a role here."
