Dallas Cowboys NFL 2015 News: Cowboys Trade Pick for Raiders’ WR Butler

After Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant underwent foot surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the team is reportedly looking for offensive help in an unlikely place"”Oakland. According to multiple reports, the Cowboys would be sending a conditional draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for wide receiver Brice Butler. In the reported deal, if Butler is active for six games, the Cowboys will also send their fifth-rounder to Oakland in exchange for the Raiders' sixth.

As noted by CBSSports, Butler has good size - 6-foot-3, 214 pounds - to go along with his speed. In his last two seasons with the Raiders prior to this one, he caught 30 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns.

Butler was not activated in the Raiders' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, and as pointed out by CBSSports, did not seem to be part of the Raiders' plans this year despite having an impressive run during training camp.

The report also notes that the Cowboys will most likely pass on the veteran receivers they worked out Tuesday, and will instead count on Butler, along with incumbent receivers Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Devin Street and Lucky Whitehead, as well as tight ends Jason Witten and Gavin Escobar to lessen the impact of Bryant's absence on offense.

An early estimate for Bryant's recovery is at four to six weeks. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, though, recently said that he is not putting a timetable on his receiver's return.

"Dez will be able to start conditioning as early as two to three weeks into rehab, Jones said. "No one knows for sure about a timetable beyond that."

Bryant was injured on a crossing route during the fourth quarter of Sunday's season opener against the New York Giants. He was replaced for the remainder of that game by Street.
