'Criminal Minds' Season 11 Spoilers: New Season to Focus on Character Development

CBS has just announced that 'Criminal Minds' will be swapping time slots with another prime-time show 'Extant,' which will premiere on Wednesday, July 22. As a result, 'Criminal Minds' Season 11 will be pushed by an hour during the weekends.

Meanwhile, quoting a recent report in TV Line, Christian Today states that the filming of 'Criminal Minds' Season 11 is already underway and the upcoming season of the police procedural television series is set for premiere on Sept. 30.

Apart from the regular cast members of the show, the producers have added another regular for Season 11. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has signed on actress Aisha Tyler to portray the character of Dr. Tara Lewis - a forensic psychologist who is focused on criminal cases. If the prevailing rumors turn out to be true, in addition to being the new member of BAU, Dr. Lewis will be Dr. Spencer Reid's new romantic partner.

During a recent interview with Digital Spy at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Spencer Reid, revealed his interest into the personal life of the new character. Gubler said, "It's always fun when the writer takes a magnifying glass to the characters' lives," replying to a question regarding his views on the new season focusing on the characters. The actor added, "I'd love to delve more into his home life and his social life and to see his mother return and just to... kinda like... figure out what he does on weekends."

Currently, most cast member of 'Criminal Minds' are busy promoting the coming season of the CBS show.

Meanwhile, Joe Mantegna (David Rossi) as well as Esai Morales (Mateo Cruz) has got in touch with fans recently through Reddit's Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. They dropped several hints regarding the casting for the much-awaited season during the Q&A.

When asked if they will be able to get Paget Brewster (Special Agent Emily Prentiss) back on the show, Mantegna replied, "Well, there's been talk of - there's a chance Paget may make an appearance now and again. Eric our producer mentioned it in an interview that there's a possibility that Paget may return from time to time."

In addition, Mantegna also teased during the AMA that he will be directing two episodes in 'Criminal Minds' Season 11, bringing in more personal stories into those episodes. The 67-year-old actor-director further o noted that there will be more character development in the coming season of the show. "I've been married three times, we've dealt with two of my wives so far, so there's a possibility you might find out more about wife number three."

The pilot episode for 'Criminal Minds' Season 11 is scheduled to air on Sept. 30.
