Craig Sager II Update: Iconic TNT & TBS Sideline Reporter Returns to the NBA Courts
Following a slew of unfortunate news reports regarding superstars getting their seasons ended by injuries or illness, the basketball got some welcome good news when Craig Sager II announced that his father, who has been out since last April battling leukemia, will be returning to the sidelines.
"It's official!! Sr just got cleared to return to work & will be back in action in action Thursday, March 5 for Thunder-Bulls!!!," Sager Jr. tweeted.
The 63-year-old Sager has been a staple on the NBA sidelines, and beloved league-wide for his Technicolor fashion sense, and his unsparing line of questioning.
Since his absence last April, the NBA has not failed to remind fans about how much Sager was in their hearts, with tributes and specials popping up frequently during the courtside reporter's absence.
During the All-Star Weekend in New York, he conducted his first interview since receiving treatment for leukemia, when he spoke with New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony while he was in Florida.
Sager, while still not revering the weight he lost, looked lively and even had a surprise for viewers, revealing he had short pants on to match his trademark quirky suit.
While Turner Sports has maintained its silence on the matter, Ball Don't Lie reports that industry sources have confirmed Sager Jr.'s tweets.
The younger Sager also announced on Twitter that the return of his father won't be limited to the NBA.
"Cue the bracket ties. Sr will be back for March Madness as well," he tweeted on the same day of his welcome announcement.
During a TNT special documenting Sager Sr.'s road to recovery, it was highlighted how Sager Jr.'s blood became a huge part of the procedure that led to his father's wellness.
Sager Jr. was a perfect 10-out-of-10 match in human leukocyte antigen (HLA), which translated to a huge victory in his fathers battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
