‘Covert Affairs’ Season 6 Renewed or Canceled? USA Network Drops Spy Series
USA Network has announced that they have decided to cancel their spy drama series 'Covert Affairs' after five seasons on the air.
The cancellation of 'Covert Affairs' which star Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham and more, is considered a surprise for many. The show ended its fifth season in December with a cliffhanger finale as Perabo's Annie had yet to answer a marriage proposal, while Gorham's Auggie decided to leave the CIA and travel the world.
Also, the ending seemed to hint at a reboot of the show given Auggie's leaving and Annie's new gig for the CIA.
With so many things left to wrap up, many are expecting a renewal, but the USA Network announced that they have officially decided to cancel the show.
Sources claimed that the choice between a cancellation and renewal came to a business decision concerning the show's ratings.
The series, which used to average about 5 million total viewers during its live-plus-same-day returns, averaged only 1.5 million viewers this season. It even hit a new low when it only came up to about 1.1 million viewers in November. However, that was not enough to help the show get another season run.
Also, it was reported that USA Network was focusing on other material and shows to premiere.
The network is concentrating on several scripted original shows such as 'Playing House', 'Benched', 'Graceland', 'Suits', 'Royal Pains' and 'Satisfaction'. They have also greenlighted several new series this year: 'Complications', 'Dig' and hacker drama series 'Mr. Robot', starring Rami Malek and Christian Slater, according to Cinema Blend.
Four more pilots are also reportedly being eyed by the network, namely 'Stanistan' starring Jennifer Carpenter ('Dexter') and 'Colony' starring Josh Holloway ('Lost'), as well as 'Evil Men' and 'Queen of the South'.
While many fans of 'Covert Affairs' lament the show's cancellation, hopefully they can take solace in the upcoming shows USA Network has to offer.
