‘Community’ Season 6 Release Date, New Cast News: Yvette Nicole Brown Leaves Series

Fans were reluctant to learn that the popular NBC comedy series 'Community' had been cancelled on May 9, 2014, but were elated to hear that the show would be coming back for a Season 6. This time around Yahoo! Screen will be streaming the new season online.

However, just recently, news broke that lead actress Yvette Nicole Brown will not be reprising her role as Shirley when the series returns sometime in early 2015.

On that note, it's worth mentioning that fan based demand had a lot to do with the series return. Apparently, even before the latest season ended, a chant circulated on social media, calling for a Season 6. Fans would post "six seasons and a movie", which is a line from the episode "Paradigms of Human Memory" regarding NBC's short-lived series 'The Cape'.

Stepping back into the loss of Brown in the upcoming installment, the show's creators Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna had this to say, "Yvette was an integral part of Community and is irreplaceable. We are sad to see her go and wish her the very best."

According to IMDb, Brown is leaving because she wants to attend to the care of her ailing father.

As it stands, it is not yet known how the show will explain the characters absence, but in light of that, two new characters have been confirmed to be joining the show. The new characters will play a major role in the series, one of which will be male, while the other is female.

On a side note, fans of the former 'Community' actress will be able to see her on air in another role she has taken under her wing. She will be playing a part in the upcoming revival of the popular series 'The Odd Couple'. Yvette Nicole Brown is set to play a supporting role in that series.

Last but not least, in regards to a 'Community' film, Zack Van Amburg of Sony Pictures Television confirmed that a 'Community' film was in the early stages of development during a June, 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

He said, "There's no way we're not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let's look up and decide how much more 'Community' the world wants."

Adding, "I'd be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it."
