'Community' Season 6 Release Date, Cast News: Series Premieres on Yahoo! in March

While Yahoo announced that "Community" will have a sixth season, some of the show's cast members have already up and left the series.

The news was revealed on Television Critics Association winter press tour last week. On September, Yvette Nicole Brown who played the owner of Shirley's Sandwiches, Shirley Bennett, has revealed that she is leaving the show for personal reasons. As a result, her character will be written off from the story in the upcoming season's first episode.

Aside from Brown, John Oliver who portrayed Psychology professor Ian Duncan and Jonathan Banks who played Criminology professor Buzz Hickey will also be absent from season six since they will appear on "Last Week Tonight" and "Better Call Saul" respectively. However, the writers expressed their interest to include the two actors for guest appearances.

Harmon added that he is praying that Donald Glover who played star quarterback and prom king Troy Barnes will return to "Community."

Since a lot of the characters have left the series, the show will also introduce new cast members. Paget Brewster will be introduced in season six as the problem solver who is set to resolve troubles in Gleendale. Keith David will take the role of a computer programmer who is off for a fresh start.

"Community's" sixth season will premiere with two episodes and will air weekly after that. The show's Dan Harmon creator said that there was never a plan to release "Community" all at once since "old school is the best school."

At the press tour, the creator was asked if the show will have more seasons after the sixth. Harmon replied that the team will definitely not write the story as if it is ending but as of this time, Yahoo has not ordered more than the sixth season. The creator even joked "It will be weird when we're canceled by the internet."

The "Community" will not be aired on television but will be streamed via Yahoo. The show's creators commented that they are now "freer" to explore the storyline. In addition, the show will be supported by advertisements since Yahoo does not have subscribers unlike Netflix or Amazon.

Fans can finally watch the highly-anticipated comeback of "Community" on March 17.
