Lynne Russell News: CNN Anchor and Husband Shot During Attempted Robbery, Intruder Left Dead
Who knew that a former CNN News anchor could be in the news herself? Former host of CNN Headline News Lynne Russell and husband Chuck de Caro were on the road to a relaxing trip together and decided to stay at a New Mexico motel for the night when an intruder went in and shot the married couple multiple times.
The intruder was suspected to have entered the married couple's room for an attempted robbery but apparently, the suspect had the gun expertise as well to have shot Russell three times as well as her husband. Although after the gun fight, the married couple are now recovering but the intruder was left dead at the scene.
"The man pushed me inside, I was airborne, literally," Russell told Albuquerque's ABC 7. "And [I] landed on the bed, and that was about the time that Chuck came. The man was just wild. He was pointing the gun, and the way that he was acting, it was as if he'd done it before."
"[The intruder] came over, grabbed the briefcase, and I thought for a moment he was just going to leave because he had something," Russell continued. "Then he turned around and he opened fire. My husband returned fire. And he's a better shot."
It was indeed a tragic event that left Russell, who left her CNN stint and worked at Canada's CBC Newsworld and then hosted a radio program in Toronto and her husband recovering after undergoing surgery at University of New Mexico Hospital.
Indeed the news was in the headlines and now people are hoping that the two fully recover from the traumatic incident. "It was a gun battle, and Chuck was bleeding heavily, but he didn't stop firing because the man was firing on him, and he was looking for me," she also told the New York Post.
