CM Punk UFC 2014 News: Former WWE Superstar Reveals Why He Signed with MMA Company [VIDEO]
Former WWE superstar CM Punk revealed why he signed with UFC in a recent interview, as rumors of possible opponents continue to surface including the original Green Power Ranger Jason David Frank (aka Tommy Oliver).
"I know there's a lot of kids out there who look up to me - maybe, I don't know - I always just tell them to don't let anybody tell you cannot do something.... Choose a path and work towards it to the best of your ability, and that's all I'm doing here.... I'm coming into the biggest fighting organization in the world with a 0-0 record and I understand that," said Punk at the UFC press conference.
"I'm sure people are going to throw that in my face but that does not bother me, that's the reality of it and I embrace that reality. Can C.M. Punk fight? Yeah, I think everybody on some level can fight. It's in our DNA. I intend to take this very seriously, and like I said with Joe Rogan, I respect everybody who has ever stepped in the cage, and before I'm done here everybody will respect me as well."
The "Best in the World" has not been seen in the WWE ring since he competed at the Royal Rumble PPV event on January 26, but now he is looking to have the same success as his former opponent Brock Lesnar previously had in the MMA ring.
"Well you hear positive and negative things about Brock, 'oh Brock he's a wrestler, he got knocked out.' Brock was the heavyweight champion, so if someone's going to compare me to Brock Lesnar then I'll take that. I think I'm a little cuter," said Punk.
Lesnar is currently the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and is the only man in history to win the prestigious WWE title, UFC championship belt, and NCAA wrestling championship in his illustrious career.
Now Punk's path to possibly becoming a UFC champion might include a potential bout with the 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' star Jason David Frank.
The actor turned professional mixed martial artist went on social media to reveal that he wants to join the world famous MMA company in order to battle the ex-WWE Champion in the middle of the ring in the future.
"I'll fight Punk...I'm sorry guys I have to do this and wake up UFC," wrote Frank via Facebook recently.
"...I like CM this is just a professional call out. This is my life and I deserve a shot at this...Haters hate, winners WIN. It's a great fight embrace don't hate."
Punk's wife and ex-WWE colleague AJ Lee also went on social media after her husband signed the blockbuster deal with UFC.
"Thank you @danawhite & all the girls & guys at @ufc for being kind & welcoming...and letting us take prom pics," wrote Lee on her Twitter page on December 8.
"And now I fly to Raw. Because Mama has to pay the bills, too. #slammyawards."
