CM Punk & Rhonda Rousey News, Rumors: April Fool's Joke Pairs Legendary Fighters

The WWE is coming off a couple of great shows following up the spectacle of WrestleMania 31, with an explosive "Monday Night Raw" episode. And now, reports have surfaced that UFC fighter Phil Brooks, or CM Punk, as he is more known in professional wrestling circles, will be making a an appearance at a WWE event.

"4.26 #NeverSayNever #HashtagsAreStupid," was the cryptic tweet CM Punk tweeted on March 30, which fueled speculation that the former WWE Champion will be making an appearance at WWE's "Extreme Rules" pay-per-view show at the AllState Arena in Chicago, Illinois on April 26.

A couple of days after that, UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who made an appearance at WrestleMania 31, also sent a tweet regarding the April 26 event.

"4.26 Chicago is not ready for this. Steph may own sports entertainment, but I'm not a Diva. #ExtremeRules #EveryRingIsMyRing," the undefeated UFC fighter tweeted.

While there is still no word on what CM Punk's role will be at the event, UFC president Dana White confirmed with ESPN that Rousey has agreed to a deal for a one-time-only match at "WWE Extreme Rules," according to a WrestleZone report.

The news comes shortly after a report came out that there was no future WWE plans for Rousey following her WrestleMania appearance in which she appeared with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to lay the smack down on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

"At the end of the day, I gave her my blessing because Ronda is Ronda. But I have to get something out of this as well, and Ronda's next fight isn't until August if we can get the dates ironed out. So I called Vince I said "I'll give you Ronda, but you have to let Punk go down there with her. Play it up as a story - whatever - but I need to start generating some buzz around this guy's first fight.' So that's what we're doing. WWE gets Rousey and Punk for one night, and we get to sell wrestling fans on coming over and checking out what we do," White said.

The report ends with WrestleZone wishing everyone a Happy April Fool's.
