Cleveland Cavaliers News: Cavs’ Players Privately Want Blatt to Use More of the Roster

The shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers have resorted to what LeBron James calls their grit squad to give the Golden State Warriors as much adversity as the best regular season team has faced all year. But it hasn't come without a price. The Cavs looked evidently gassed during Game 4, having played a shortened rotation extremely heavy minutes. ESPN reports, that according to multiple sources, Cavs coach David Blatt could turn to its sparingly used veterans to give its key players more rest.

As noted by the ESPN report, Blatt played only seven players in Game 4 after playing eight in Games 2 and 3. And after James and surprise vital cog Matthew Dellavedova looking visibly worn down from the heavy demands, ESPN reports that players have begun to privately grumble that the coach needs to use more of his roster.

"[It] was the third game in five days, including the trip back from the West Coast, and it seemed to have an impact on us," Blatt said after the Warriors turned in the most one sided performance of the Finals in Game 4. "We're thinner now than we were, but that's not an excuse. We haven't used it as an excuse yet, and we won't start now. We've just got to pick it up."

According to the report, several sources say that Shawn Marion, who has announced his intentions to retire following the season, has been waiting eagerly to get his chance to play.

"That's the coach's decision if he decides he wants to go deeper in the bench," James said. "We haven't played many guys throughout this playoff run. I think it would help some of the guys that are playing some high minutes, for sure. Just give guys a couple of minutes here, a couple of minutes there. But I think the coaching staff will try to do what's best to help us be physically and mentally prepared for Sunday."
