Cleveland Cavaliers NBA 2015 News: Kyrie Irving Out of Finals with Fractured Knee Cap

The Cleveland Cavaliers, a team that is already playing without Kevin Love, got worse news than what was hoped for when tests revealed that All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has suffered a fractured knee cap late in Game 1 and is now out for the rest of the Finals.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Irving underwent an MRI Friday at the Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic, which revealed the fracture on the same knee that has also been bothering Irving with tendinitis. He is expected to have surgery in the coming days in Cleveland and is expected to be out three to four months.

"I want to thank everyone for the well wishes. Saddened by the way I had to go out but it doesn't take away from being apart of a special playoff run with my brothers. Truly means a lot for all the support and love. I gave it everything I had and have no regrets. I love this game no matter what and I'll be back soon. To my brothers: You already know what the deal is. And to Delly: ICE it down del" * Big Perk voice *," Irving wrote in an Instagram post.

After missing half of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks, Irving was questionable to play heading into Game 1. Surprisingly, he played 44 minutes before getting hurt, scoring 23 points, while also having seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Second year point guard Matthew Dellavedova is expected to fill in for Irving in Game 2. In the two games Irving missed in the Atlanta series, the Australian guard started in his place. He is averaging 6.5 points and 2.7 assists in 15 games this postseason.

Game 2 between the Golden State Warriors and the Cavs is Sunday, June 7. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.
