Cleveland Cavaliers NBA 2015 News: Kevin Love Injured - Out of NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Semi-Finals
The Cleveland Cavaliers made short work of the feisty and overachieving Boston Celtics, sweeping Brad Steven's crew in the first round, but it didn't come without a price. Cavs forward Kevin Love had to leave the first quarter of Game 4 after getting his arm tangled with Celtics' Kelly Olynyk, which dislocated his shoulder. And now, the team announced that the sweet shooting forward will miss the Eastern Conference semifinal because of the injury.
According to the team, Love suffered an "acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with the corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising." As reported by USA Today, Love is undergoing treatment, while the team's medical team is exploring other opinions as well as additional treatment options.
As noted by the report, the ligament and labrum tear made the injury that much more serious, with the recovery time possibly taking 4-6 weeks. Citing athletic trainer Jeff Stotts, who maintains a database of NBA injuries, the average absence for a dislocated shoulder is 27 days.
After a season in which he was highly criticized by the media, Love had a brilliant series against Boston, his first ever playoff appearance. Before his Game 4 injury, he was averaging 18.3 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, while shooting 47.3 percent from deep.
"It's the next man up," said Cavs megastar LeBron James. "Next man up and we'll see what happens."
The Cavs will be facing a tough challenge whoever wins between the Chicago Bulls and the Milwaukee Bucks. Apart from missing Love, guard J.R. Smith is suspended for the first two games of the Eastern Conference semis after his flagrant foul 2 on Boston's Jae Crowder.
That will make Cleveland's already short rotation even more suspect. They already lost forward Anderson Varejao earlier in the season, and Love's injury will force them to search for someone to fill in at the 4-spot.
As of this writing, the Bulls lead the Bucks 3-2 heading to Game 6 in Milwaukee.
