Cleveland Browns NFL 2014 News, Rumors: Manziel New Starting Quarterback's Rocky Start

Rookie Johnny Manziel was made the starting quarterback last week to the dismay of some Cleveland Browns fans. Manziel was almost immediately brought down by a definitive loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Nevertheless, the newbie's drive and potential remained indisputable after the game, and so Coach Pettine announced on Monday that the Browns would keep Manziel as the starting quarterback. According to Coach Pettine, Manziel is the Browns best chance at winning over Brian Hoyer.

The upcoming star was humble about his position when he talked about his last game to ESPN. "First time I've ever not scored a point or been shut out," Manziel said, "I felt like I could do everything I needed to from the pocket yesterday. Whenever I did have the chance to break the pocket, I felt some things happened where we weren't able to capitalize on."

Coach Pettine has told the team, honestly, that it is a team effort and a team loss, and Manziel was not to blame for last week's shut out. Now with Coach Pettine on his side and the team behind him, Manziel seems to have secured a highly coveted spot in the big leagues.

Brian Hoyer, the former starting quarterback, will not be the permanent starting quarterback any longer. The main reason he has been taken out by Coach Pettine is because Hoyer has been struggling so much over the last month. Critics like Adam Schefter from ESPN question the decision. "This isn't quarterback yo-yo; this is football," Schefter wrote. Schefter is a big proponent for Hoyer as starter, despite his struggles.

Nevertheless, Coach Pettine is not one to back down, and it seems Manziel is here to stay as he will try to lead his team to victory.
