Christian Heavy Metal Band Stryper Announces 'Fallen' Tour; Meanwhile Michael Sweet Pokes Fun At Likeness To Ted Cruz
Stryper frontman Michael Sweet's innocent side-by-side photo with Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who is running in the 2016 US presidential race-along with an innocent remark about being a lookalikes-went viral.
The frontman for the Christian heavy metal band even quipped jokingly that he's quitting Stryper and instead focus on his presidential campaign.
Later, Sweet apologized on his Twitter, addressed to Ted Cruz, "My apologies about the silly blow up @tedcruz of you and I being one and the same. Do you even know who @Stryper is? #HeavyMetalCandidate."
But Michael Sweet is still being hounded by calls from the big broadcast networks like CNN, Fox News, NBC and publications like Billboard and NY Daily News, as well as digital media like Salon, BuzzFeed and Mashable to comment on his lookalike Ted Cruz.
Even the singer had to admit that he had no idea how something could go viral in such a short time.
"It is so mind boggling at times what goes viral," he told NBC 5.
Later, he backtracked about his likeness to Ted Cruz as Michael Sweet told CNN, "I don't really see the resemblance."
Meanwhile, Stryper has announced that the band is going on a tour this spring, not to drum up the presidential campaign of Ted Cruz, but rather to promote their latest album, "Fallen."
The spring tour is meant to whet the appetite of heavy metal fans prior to Stryper going on a world tour this fall, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "To Hell with the Devil."
Michael Sweet and the rest of the guys in Stryper will kick off the world tour in Osaka Club Quattro in Osaka, Japan, on April 15 and will end on The Monsters of Rock Cruise 2017 in Tampa Bay, Florida, from Feb. 2-7. And no, Ted Cruz will not be joining.
