Chris Tomlin's Prayers: Singer Prays for 'Worship Night in America', Family, & New Songs [INTERVIEW]

Chris Tomlin

Chris Tomlin is arguably the most successful artist in worship music and today he is about to embark on a tour he has always dreamed of, 'Worship Night In America.' In a recent interview with BREATHEcast the singer candidly shared what his current prayers requests are.

Tomlin was named the K-love Fan Awards 2015 Male Artist Of The Year, his songs "How Great is Our God" and "Our God" can be heard in almost every protestant church in the world on a Sunday morning, but when asked what his hopes for the future were he answered in the form of a prayer.

Tomlin's Prayers

"I'd like to see this 'Worship Night in America' become something that is a yearly thing or maybe every couple years but that it continues on and becomes something that is bigger than me.

I pray for continued songs of that path that God set me on of writing songs for the church.

I pray for continued songs for the presence of God to touch people always.

I'm praying for those songs [and that] I try to write in that way.

And then in my world on a personal place, my family, my amazing young family, raising them in the right way and being a good husband, and a good dad. There's nothing more important then that."

Those very direct and simple prayer requests from one of the biggest names in Christian music follow the theme of his upcoming dream tour, 'Worship Night in America'.
Tomlin's 'Worship Night In America' has events scheduled this August in New York City's Madison Square Garden (Aug. 8), Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater (Aug. 13) and Sacramento's Sleep Train Arena (Aug. 15).

As a time of worship and prayer for the nation, Tomlin will be joined by several prominent worship leaders and pastors including: Louie Giglio, Max Lucado, Matt Redman, Kari Jobe, Rend Collective, Israel Houghton, Matt Maher, Phil Wickham, and Hillsong's Reuben Morgan. The Texas native said his desire was to bring the church together because it can really be a powerful thing when the church gathers together to worship God from all different streams of the church.

"It's our connection with God, it's in the scripture 'when my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked way, I will hear them from heaven and I will heal their land.' I mean how powerful is that? That's the word of God," he said.

That's why prayer is an important part of this night in 'Worship night in America," he continued.

Although many Christians believe praying for the nation takes precedence Tomlin shared a different theory.

"We're not coming together and saying look at all the things the world is doing, lets pray for the world they need God. No! We need Him ourselves we need revival in ourselves and we're going to pray for our churches" he declared, "Our churches are directionless as much as the nation is. Then we want to turn our hearts to pray for the nation and asking God to bring unity among the churches for his blessing for his touch on our country."

He went on to say, "He's blessed us greatly we have so much to be grateful for. I believe it's a moment to say thank you. I believe it's on point for where we are as a country to pray together."

'Worship Night In America' kicks off in August in New York City, then heads to Denver, and Sacramento. For more information and ticket details visit christomlin.com.
