Chris Tomlin celebrates unprecedented career milestone with over 3 Years (157+ Career Weeks) spent at #1 following the success of "Holy Forever"
Nashville, Tenn. – Chris Tomlin, the “most often sung artist in the world” according to Time Magazine, celebrated with industry, family and friends today a monumental benchmark as his recent six- week #1 single “Holy Forever,” marks the historic achievement of holding the #1 position on a radio chart for OVER 3 YEARS, totaling in 157+ weeks. Tonight’s celebration of the highly regarded worship leader, songwriter and artist took an unexpected turn as Tomlin himself presented a plaque to Capitol Christian Music Group for the unprecedented accomplishment.
“I have had the great honor of receiving many awards and accolades, commemorating different achievements throughout my career… but today is different,” shared Tomlin. “As we sit here celebrating this remarkable milestone it is not lost on me that to have this kind of longevity and impact is directly attributed to a long term partnership with the same record label, Capitol Christian Music Group. So while today was intended to celebrate 21 #1 songs … I wanted to take the moment and put the spotlight on this 20+ year partnership with Capitol, the entire team, and each person who has made all this possible.”
Prior to “Holy Forever,” written by Chris, Jenn Johnson and Brian Johnson of Bethel Music, Phil Wickham and Jason Ingram, hitting the radio charts, there was an undeniable movement as worship leaders across the country discovered the song and began adding it to their church services. That attention, and the remarkable run at radio, has triggered a global response to the song. Off the continued success, Chris partnered with Miel San Marcos to release a Spanish version of the song out now and this Friday, a Portuguese adaption will be available as Chris teams up with Gabriel Guedes de Almeida.
Chris recently shared about his most recent #1 with Billboard “I really don’t know what to say right now… I remember over 20 years ago being told that radio wouldn’t play worship music. So, to fast forward to today and not only have another number one radio song but to have the ongoing opportunity to help give people a voice to worship God through radio, through streaming, through live events, and through songs being led in the church… is something I will never take for granted. I could never have imagined the doors and opportunities God would open up and I am so excited, and expectant for what’s to come next. Thank you radio for all you have done and all you continue to do…”
During tonight’s celebration the Grammy-winner was presented with four new RIAA certifications: “Amazing Grace” (My Chains Are Gone) -double Platinum, “I Will Follow” -Platinum, “I Will Rise” -Platinum and Gold for “Thank You Lord (featuring Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett).”
