Chris Rock 'Saturday Night Live' Monologue - Controversial Jokes on Terrorism & Christmas on SNL?

Chris Rock raised a lot of eyebrows during his appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' last Nov. 1, as he was noted to be joking about some sensitive topics like terrorism and Christmas.

Some felt that the comedian cross the line as he joked about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings and the 9/11 attack. On top of that, he stepped in to give his two cents about Jesus and Christmas during his monologue

The former cast member of NBC "sketch" comedy series delivered what seemed to be "below the belt" punch lines.

"Yesterday was Halloween, tomorrow is the New York City marathon. Yeah, scary, you know, what could go wrong there?" Rock says during his monologue.

The 2013 Boston Marathon saw three people killed and 264 were wounded in a bombing carried out by two ethnic Chechen brothers.

While there were some viewers who felt the humor was a tad distasteful, others felt it wasn't too far over the line.

"That was probably the most frightening, sadistic terrorist attack ever! Twenty-six miles! Twenty-six miles is a long DRIVE. If you call up one of your friends...'Hey man, I need you to pick me up' 'Where you at?' 'About 26 miles away.' 'Then you better get Uber!" Rock expressed his thoughts about the Boston Marathon Bombing

The Boston Marathon bombing was one of the largest attacks in the United States besides Sept. 11, 2001, when thousands of people were killed by terrorist group al Qaeda, who hijacked commercial planes and caused them to crash into the Pentagon and New York City's World Trade Center.

Chris Rock didn't stop there, as it seemed he had something to say on every matter he brought up in his monologue, "They should change the name from the 'Freedom Tower' to the 'Never Going in There Tower'!" Rock exclaimed.

"Hey, hey, I'm not joking about 9/11. I'm not, I'm not," he says.

"But you gotta realize, we are in America, and in America, there are no sacred days, 'cause we commercialize everything. We're only five years away from 9/11 sales! That's right. You're gonna hear it on the radio. 'Come on down to Red Lobster. These shrimp are nine dollars and 11 cents!"

Beyond all that, Chris Rock even joked about the coming holiday season.

"Look at what we did to Christmas," he adds, "Christmas is Jesus' birthday. I don't know Jesus but from what I've read Jesus is the least materialistic person to ever roam the Earth! No bling on Jesus!"

While the episode seemed cringeworthy for some, SNL fared pretty well in ratings after some sluggish ratings this Fall.

The Nov. 1 episode of 'Saturday Night Live' proved to be a big hit, with an average of 4.9 household rating/12 share in Nielsen's 56 metered markets, and a 2.4/10 in adults 18-49 in Nielsen's 25 homes with Local People Meters, according to IMDb.
