'Chicago PD' Latest News: Antonio Dawson Heads Off To 'Justice'

A member of Chicago P.D.'s Intelligence Unit is heading off to spinoff "Chicago Justice."

According to reports, Jon Seda, who plays detective Antonio Dawson in "Chicago P.D.," will transition to the upcoming offshoot as a series regular. He will play the role of an investigator for the D.A.'s office and will be partnered with Joelle Carter's Lori Nagle.

The planted "Chicago Justice" spinoff episode of "Chicago P.D." saw Nagle partnered with investigator Daren Okada, played by Ryan James Hatanka. Since Seda's Antonio Dawson is set to take over the role, Hatanka will no longer be part of the series.

The series, which debuts midseason in 2017 on NBC, marks Jon Seda's third show in NBC's mega franchise. He first appeared on the flagship series "Chicago Fire," and then on "Chicago P.D."

According to "Chicago" boss Dick Wolf, it was a creative decision to have Dawson move to "Justice," considering the natural trajectory of the character.

The NBC has yet to confirm the timing of Seda's move to the spinoff series. Until then, he will continue to star on "Chicago P.D.," where his character is set to bask in a cross-show romance with "Chicago Fire" paramedic, Sylvie Brett.

Seda will star the new NBC series alongside "Strike Back's" Philip Winchester, "Colony's" Carl Weathers, "Justified's" Joelle Carter, and "UnREAL's" Monica Barbaro. Michael S. Chernuchin of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will serve as the showrunner. Meanwhile, Nazneed Contractor, who portrayed the role of an ASA in the backdoor pilot, is confirmed to be continuing with the series.
