'Chicago Fire' Season 2 Episode 19 Recap: Dawson Gets Suicide Note
Last night's episode of popular NBC show "Chicago Fire" left fans reeling. The firehouse learns of Jones' suicide, and adding to the impact of that, Jones' suicide note is discovered and delivered to Dawson. Dawson and the crew struggle with how to handle the suicide. It was a very emotional episode.
Dawson receives the letter, and though she is hesitant to read it, she does eventually. However, she does not tell anyone a word of what the letter contained. The letter obviously had a strong effect on her, as she has a short temper throughout the episode. Dawson erupts in a fury of emotion and yells at everyone in the firehouse.
The firehouse is not sure how to handle the news of Jones' suicide, nor Dawson's emotional state. Executive producer Matt Olmstead attempted to explain the state of the firehouse.
"A lot of times, there is no logic to why this tragedy happened, and people struggle to find the logic to make themselves feel better to get some kind of order to what happened," Olmstead said during an interview with TV Guide.
Dawson herself clearly does not know how to deal with the tragedy. In an attempt to do something productive, she attempts to deliver Jones's things to her father. Dawson expects to be able to take her anger out on Jones's father. However, upon seeing him, it appears that he is already angry at himself and racked with guilt.
