Chicago Bulls News, NBA 2015 Rumors: Surgery for Derrick Rose to Repair or Remove Torn Meniscus?

You don't have to be a Chicago Bulls fan to find the news that came out Tuesday to be truly unfortunate, as the Bulls PR announced that Derrick Rose will be out of action yet again due to a medial meniscus tear of the right knee.

While the Bulls have yet to announce how they plan to go about the injury and the surgery, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune provided some updates on the inopportune trend.

"Belief growing that Rose's meniscus tear is not as significant as November 2013. Won't know until surgery but could be a small cartilage tear," he tweeted.

Adding, "Also, this is not definitive (and sounds like Rose's call) but surgery expected sooner rather than later and could be as early as Friday."

Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin earlier reported that Bulls don't know when the injury occurred, with Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau saying that they found out after Rose had an MRI after Tuesday's practice.

Highkin added that the Bulls are still weighing whether to remove the damaged meniscus or repair it.

"Generally two scenarios with meniscus tear"”slice off the excess & back in a few weeks or repair & out for a few months, #Bulls," Mike McGraw of the Daily Herald tweeted.

"I don't know what to say other than it's so unfair," Thibodeau said.

Rose's close friend and former teammate Luol Deng was as heartbroken as many of the former MVP's teammates. "Honestly, I was almost in tears. It's different when you know a guy that well," he said.

According to Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago, Bulls doctor Brian Cole will be performing the surgery on Rose. Cole also performed the previous two surgeries on the guard's troublesome knees.

The 26-year-old has missed 192 games in the last four seasons, after winning the league MVP award.

For the season, Rose is averaging 18.4 points, 5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game.
