Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger Biopic News: Clint Eastwood to Direct 'Miracle on the Hudson' for Warner Bros.

Clint Eastwood will be directing the biopic on the pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who successfully landed his incapacitated jet on the Hudson River in New York in 2009. According to Warner Bros. Pictures, which will be producing the movie, the film will be based on the book "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters," authored by Sullenberger and the late Jeffery Zaslow, which describes the incident that took place.

According to IB Times, the biopic will show the behind-the-scenes drama involving Sullenberger's landing of the US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after the aircraft hit a large flock of birds, disabling both its engines. As all 155 people aboard the flight managed to survive the incident it was later dubbed the "Miracle on the Hudson."

Recently, Sullenberger issued a statement saying "I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall. The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team."

Warner Bros. Pictures president (Creative Development and Worldwide Production) Greg Silverman said the untitled film will be made in association with Marshall and Stewart as the producers, while the screenplay will be written by Todd Komarnicki.

In a statement, Silverman said, "Simply put, Clint Eastwood is at the top of his game, not to mention a global treasure. On the heels of his extraordinary work in 'American Sniper,' it is tremendously exciting to see him explore the life of another captivating true-life hero."

Meanwhile, Eastwood recently directed the Oscar-winning movie 'American Sniper' starring Bradley Cooper as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. This movie reportedly grossed about $543 million worldwide for the studio and was declared the top domestic release of 2014.
