Charlotte Hornets NBA 2015 News: Hornets Acquire Batum from Blazers for Henderson and Vonleh

After kicking off the offseason festivities by trading Lance Stephenson to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Charlotte Hornets kept their roster revamp by acquiring Nicolas Batum from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for guard Gerald Henderson, and second-year big man Noah Vonleh.

As noted by ESPN, the deal comes just nine days after Stephenson was shipped for Clippers big Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes.

"We felt like we needed some more shooting and we feel like we have addressed that," said Hornets general manager Rich Cho.

"We are still looking to do a number of things," he added of a team that had a disappointing season after making the playoffs in 2014.

Batum has spent his first seven seasons with the Blazers, and is coming off a season in which he averaged 9.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 71 games. He spent most of the season battling through a nagging wrist injury, which could be blamed for his down year.

ESPN Stats & Information notes that over the past three seasons, Batum is one of only three players to average at least six rebounds and five assists. He averaged 6.4 rebounds and 5 assists over that period"”the other two players to have done it are LeBron James and Russell Westbrook.

For his career, Batum has averaged 11.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 428 regular season games.

"He provides a 3-point shooting threat and he's a good versatile defender who can guard multiple positions. He has been in the league for seven years, so he gives us experience. But yet, he is still in his prime. He is going to be a great addition to this team," Cho said.

The Blazers get Henderson. Who averaged 12.1 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. They also get the ninth overall pick in the 2014 Draft in Vonleh, who played sparingly last season as a 19-year-old.
