Celine Dion Attends Cherished Husband's Funeral in Notre Dame Basilica
It has been a sad beginning of 2016 for the Dion family. Hundreds of people have visited the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Canada, to mourn the death of Rene Angelil, husband and manager of the iconic singer Celine Dion.
The place of the funeral was the same church where the two had been married 21 years ago, according to Mirror.
Dion led the hundreds of people in attendance, accompanied by Celine's sons, her mother, and also Rene's brother, Andre. The whole family was dressed in black as they entered the Basilica. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, and the federal Heritage Minister, Mélanie Jol, also attended the funeral.
According to ITV, Rene Angelil's son, Rene Charles, made a speech during the eulogy. He said: "You are a tough act to follow, but with your help, everything's going to be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we're all going to live up to your standards."
When Celine Dion came near the casket of her loved one, the emotional singer maintained her composure as she leaned forward and kissed the casket of Rene Angelil.
Rene Angelil passed away after a long battle with cancer on January 14. He was the one who discovered and helped Celine Dion to stardom. The two eventually fell in love with one another and got married in 1994.
It was a tragic week for Celine Dion as her brother, 59-year-old Daniel, also passed away after having battled cancer. She will be cancelling many of her upcoming shows and will continue with her work some time in February.
