Cate Blanchett News: Oscar Award Winning Actress & 'Cinderella' Star Adopts a Baby Girl
Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett and screenwriter husband Andrew Upton have added a new addition to their family: a baby girl by the name of Edith Vivian Patricia.
After Ignatius, now six, was born, Blanchett told InStyle in 2009 that she wanted to have more children. She said, "Just when, I don't know. But the thing is, we hadn't planned any of the others. They just popped out. So you shouldn't over plan these things. If it happens, it would be great."
Since then, the family has also had two other sons by the names of Roman Robert, 10, and Dashiell John, 13.
Australia's Women's Weekly was first to report on the story nearly three days ago. Blanchett had been seen with the little one in her arms at an airport and in the family's vehicle while the actress was dropping off her other kids to school.
Blanchett, 45, is currently in the United States to promote Disney's live action film Cinderella. She plays the wicked step-mother. When approached to do the film Blanchett told Good Morning America that she wasn't fond of starring in it.
She said, "It wasn't a fairy tale that I actually gravitated towards because I found the central female character really passive." However, since signing on, Blanchett has told various sources that playing the villain has been "fantastic."
Blanchett is most known for her roles in Blue Jasmine and The Aviator, winning an Oscar for both roles. Both she and Upton are very excited to welcome their new daughter into the family and are eager to see how their three sons will react to having a little sister around.
