The creators as well as the fans of 'Castle,' the long-running crime drama television series on ABC, are uncertain whether or not the show will be renewed for its eighth season. As the finale of 'Castle' Season 7 is drawing near, fans are anxious to know about the fate of their favorite show.

Christian Today reports that as of now, ABC has yet to make any official announcement regarding the cancellation or renewal of the series. Nevertheless, actress Stana Katic, who portrays the character of Kate Beckett, took to her Twitter handle to give a somewhat ominous statement about the future of 'Castle.'

Katic tweeted, "7. Proud of all we've accomplished. Grateful 4 being part of the ride."

Needless to say that Katic's followers on Twitter as well as 'Castle' fans were taken aback to read her tweet, and they also reacted immediately. According to the report, fans were sad to learn that the upcoming Season 7 finale could also be the finale of 'Castle.' Unfortunately, since Katic didn't follow up on her tweet, it left fans more confused than ever.

In fact, Katic had vented her views on the renewal of the show way back in November 2014. According to her, there's no point in continuing the show if the show creators did not have any new story to tell.

In an interview with TVLine, Katic had then said, "If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top, because I admire the way that they did that with 'The Wire,' you know?" She also added, "Tell a great story and then go home and move onto something else. Don't milk it just because."

According to Katic, it is "art over finance" for her and if the writers do have something compelling to write, they can still go on. However, if they don't, "it's time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing," Katic said.

The actress also said that she felt lucky playing Beckett and that she's happy anywhere the character is going at the end of the series.

"I'm just happy that I got to be one of the cogs in the machine that created this show and was a part of its success in some small way. So that makes me happy, whatever happens," she shared.

The upcoming episode of 'Castle' will be aired on March 17.
