When Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) announced in the 'Castle' Season 7 finale that she was being considered for running for the New York state Senate, fans of the crime drama television series on ABC were left wondering how the detective would leave all the cases she was working on alongside husband Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and become a politician. However, the fans need not be worried much, for Kate will be back working hard in Season 8, but this time she will be seen in a new avatar.

According to a report in IB Times, 'Castle' co-showrunner Alexi Hawley recently disclosed Kaye's new premiere position at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Talking to TV Line, Hawley, "At the end of the day, we came into this season wanting to shake things up," He further stated, "The show has been doing a great job with what's its been doing, but now we've been given an opportunity to really sort of add some energy into it"

Meanwhile, co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter said, "[Beckett running for office is] something we absolutely considered, and it's not like it's off the table," adding, "What we realized is that the best way to tell Castle's stories is to have Castle investigating twisty, fun cases. And the best way to do that is to keep Beckett in the precinct."

However, the biggest cliffhanger of 'Castle' so far was if Beckett would be seen at all after the show's Season 7 finale. Towards the end of Season 7, 'Castle' had been already renewed for an eighth season and co-star Nathan Fillion had signed on to return. However, Katic continued to be entangled in contract negotiations, which left her fate uncertain.

Therefore, the Season 7 finale as well as the New York state senate tease did not do any favors to the anxious viewers. The showrunners clearly left the fate of the character's fate very open ended for fear that if Katic did not return for another year. Nevertheless, Us Weekly reported a day after the 'Castle' Season 7 finale, ABC announced that Katic had signed a new contract to return.

'Castle' Season 8 will premiere at 10:00 pm EDT on Sept. 21 on ABC.
