'Castle' Season 8 News, Rumors: Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winters Join as New Showrunners, Stana Katic Still Unconfirmed
Castle was renewed for an eighth season earlier this week. The creator of State of Affairs, Alexi Hawley, who has also worked as a writer and producer on early seasons of Castle, will be coming to the show as one of two showrunners, the other being Terence Paul Winter.
Winter was announced as a showrunner yesterday, according to Variety.
The pair will be taking the role after David Amann, who left the show as serving it as a showrunner for a season, after replacing Andre Marlowe. Marlowe is the series creator, and has remained a part of the show as an executive producer.
This news comes one day after State of Affairs, a political drama, was canceled at NBC after just one season.
The show starred Katherine Heigl, and lasted only 13 episodes. Hawley has also been involved in other shows on television, including Body of Proof and The Following.
Winter joined the staff of Castle as a writer in 2009, and became a produce on the show in 2011. He has had many roles in relation to the show, including supervising producer and co executive producer, and he has been promoted to executive producer during the season that has just passed.
Now that season 8 has been renewed, Castle has its showrunners, and its male lead as well.
Nathan Fillion, one of the stars of the drama, renewed his contract since April, however, Stana Katic, the female lead and Fillion's television wife, has not yet reached an agreement to return to the show for the eighth season.
Castle was one of the many renewals at ABC this week. Stay tuned for more information about season eight.
