'Castle' Season 8 Finale News: Showrunners Talk About Show Cancellation Rumors?
Instead of being down because the networks have not given any word on a ninth season, "Castle" co-showrunner, Alexi Hawley, will just try to make a beautiful ending for season eight; something that can put a punctuation on the series if ever the network decides not to go on with the show.
Hawley told TV Line (via Crossmap) that the network executives won't make the decision of cancelling the show or going for another season until very late. They have managed to come up with a plan of just telling a satisfying story and do everything possible to close the season in an exciting way.
The showrunners of "Castle" started to feel tentative about the fate of the series during the early parts of 2015. The show has been consistent with its numbers despite a recent deplete in their ratings. A huge factor that might have contributed to this is the contract expiration of some of the show's main characters. There is no final word yet about the rumored cancellation of the show.
"Castle" showrunners would definitely be treating the upcoming season finale in a different way. They will treat it like it's the last, regardless of the network executives' decision. Co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter said that, "Andrew and Terri wrote it as if it was the series finale, and there's a very good chance that we'll most likely be doing that here. We hope to come back for Season 9, but we have to act as if (we might not)."
Castle season 8 mid-season finale will be on February 1, 2016 on ABC.
