The Carolina Hurricanes, currently 10-22-4, 8th in Metropolitan Division, are looking to bounce back in the NHL standings when they face-off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

Carolina recently lost to the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 3-1 in a game that seemed as thought the Hurricanes could not catch a break. The grueling match took place at December 29 at PNC Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina, and only added to the Hurricanes' already sour record.

Even with Carolina's Center Eric Staal, playing in his 800th NHL game, and scoring a power-play goal, the Canes couldn't take down the mighty Canadiens in the match-up.

However, Hurricanes coach Bill Peters was still optimistic after the game despite the agonizing loss, he said "I didn't like the last three minutes of the first," Peters said, "Then we had a power play we didn't score on and (Sekac) comes out of the box and scores, so that's a huge turning point."

On the other hand, the Pittsburgh Penguins (22-9-5, 1st in Metropolitan Division) are looking to bounce back from their surprising loss on Monday night, when they go skate-to-skate with the Carolina Hurricanes on December 31.

In their Monday night loss, Penguins' Sidney Crosby put the first point up on the board for his team, who have lost four straight games recently. Crosby swung around Devils' defenseman Andy Greene, and whipped a backhander under the crossbar at 14:37 in the first period.

"Yeah, maybe it's one of the best ever, and it was nice to get it, but it was only nice at the time because we didn't win," Crosby said in reference to his goal.

Penguins' Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury also gave his comments to reporters after the game about the surprising loss to the Devils.

"It's a tough place to play," Fleury said, "Once they got the lead, they shut it down on us. I don't understand it. It's just a tough place for us to play."
