'Captain Marvel' Rumors, News: Angelina Jolie to Direct Film if Charlize Theron Stars?
'Mad Max' actress Charlize Theron has been rumored to be a top contender for the role of Captain Marvel in the MCU, and recent news suggest that if this is fact, Angelina Jolie may be more inclined to direct the film.
Yahoo News reports that Theron and Jolie have been best friends for a number of years, along with their husbands. A source states:
"The guys have been tight for years and ever since Sean and Charlize became serious they've been spending a lot of time together as a foursome."
Marvel has been in negotiations for months with Jolie to direct the first female lead film in their movie roster, yet nothing has been confirmed. It is believed that if Theron gets chosen for the role it would entice Jolie that much more to hop on board.
"Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favorite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal," Yahoo News writes.
The two have a lot in common regarding their interests in charity work and raising adopted children. US OK! Magazine reports:
"The girls realized that they have a very similar outlook on life and quickly bonded over everything from their adopted children to their prospective Hollywood projects."
Theron's breakout performance in 'Fury Road' would make her a perfect candidate for the coveted superhero role, although a lot of other high profile actresses are rumored to be in contention, such as Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain.
The solo film is due to premiere November 2, 2018, but the character is slated to appear in an upcoming film before that time.
