'Captain Marvel' Cast News: MMA Star Ronda Rousey Expresses Her Interest In Role
MMA champion Ronda Rousey has supposedly put her bid in for portraying Marvel's titular female heroine, Carol Danvers.
The debate seemed to have started when Rousey responded to a fan in a Reddit AMA discussion, where they asked her what superhero would she play if the opportunity presented itself.
"Well... a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I'd like to vie for Miss Marvel," she replied.
While this doesn't mean she has been offered the role, it does tell us that she is very much interested in the role.
She's recently started a mini campaign for the role by reposting some fan art of her in the Captain Marvel costume on her Instagram. She captions:
"Since the reddit AMA I've received so many badass Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel edits! There were so many cool ones I couldn't pick just one to share - here's 2 series of 2 Big thank you to contributing artists: @alexmurilloart (right) and whoever did the art on the left."
The 'Captain Marvel' film is slated for 2018, however the character is expected to appear in a Marvel film well before that. There has also been rumors that the role has already been casted, as she was originally supposed to appear in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.'
"Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel, will take the spotlight in her own standalone film in Marvel Studios' Phase Three. Fans have been crying out for a female superhero movie since Scarlett Johansson made Black Widow a standout character. With her pre-established popularity, Danvers, the Air Force Major with half-Kree, half-human genes, quickly rose to the forefront of this conversation," writes EW.
