Candi Staton Featured on TV One’s “Unsung” Series / Gospel Music Making a Comeback in Europe
Candi Staton is preparing for her special two-hour episode of TV One's "Unsung" series, scheduled for Sunday, March 3rd, 2013 at 6 p.m. EST. The show will air again Sunday, March 17th at 6:45 p.m. EST.
The "Unsung" series focuses primarily on the history of 1970s disco culture. The show will also feature new interviews from disco icons like Gloria Gaynor, Nile Rodgers of Chic, K.C. & The Sunshine Band, along with Candi Staton and many more.
The special episode will take a closer look at the inspiration behind some of Candi's most recognizable hits such as, "Run to Me," "When You Wake Up Tomorrow," and "Victim." Viewers will even learn how an abusive ex-husband inspired Staton's signature song, "Young Hearts Run Free." Staton will even comment on how she grew tired of the disco lifestyle, which led to her becoming a born again Christian, saving her soul.
Staton is currently promoting her most recent single, "I Will Sing My Praise." Staton on her new non-disco approach to music and life:
"This is my personal contribution to God," she says. "It's not about trying to please anybody but God. This is my personal praise and I will to do it unto Him. But, I named the CD 'I Will Sing My Praise to You' so that listeners can put themselves in that spot and say, "Lord, I will sing my praise to you."

Staton's music started to make a comeback when London-based Defected Records remixed her 2002 gospel classic, "Hallelujah Anyway". Staton's music is enjoying new popularity in South Africa, Belgium and Germany due to remix contributions from DJ Frankie Knuckles and DJ Larse.
