'Call The Midwife' Season 5 Episode 5 Premiere Spoilers: Dr. Turner Quits Smoking, Fred Realizes His Marriage Is Unusual?
"Call The Midwife" Season 5 Episode 5 was about Dr. Turner as he realizes the bad effect of smoking. According to which, the sources says that were essential to the era.
Carter Matt notes that the realization was "very strange" especially in this modern times when cigarette smokers exist everywhere and smoking has become part of the everyday habit. However, the scene where Dr. Turner found out that smoking is bad is normal for the settings of "Call The Midwife."
Actor Stephen McGann, who plays as the doctor told Radio Times about the ordeal with smoking. "In the 1950s, they were beginning to suss out the effects of smoking. There was a famous British Medical Journey study done."
They wanted thousands of smokers to take part in a long-term survey and they wanted professional people who could be relied on to give good data," he said. "Who did they go to? The doctors. Our understanding was actually increased by the Doctor Turners of the world."
On the other hand, another story that got covered in the medical series is Fred's realization that his marriage is unusual from any other couples. They may not be able to raise kids or do any other usual stuff that married couples do, but they have found out a different way to be happy with their status.
According to Carter Matt, they are happy about little side-story not only because it tackles atypical relationships, a revelation that people could still find happiness despite the difference they had from other people. However, they would want other characters to be in the spotlight, like Trixie or Barbara.
"Call The Midwife" 5 is expected to premiere in the United States on Sunday, April 3 on PBS.
