'Burnout' News: Criterion Games Say Remaster Not Happening Anytime Soon

In line with Criterion Games and Acclaim Entertainment's "Burnout," it was recently rumored that a remaster of the game is in progress.

On Aug. 18, Criterion Games wrote on Twitter, however, that no new "Burnout" titles were planned at the moment, adding that that was all there was to say for the time being. The tweet was a response to gaming enthusiast Jonas Zeto (@JonasZeto), who asked if the studio had started preparing for a Burnout 6.

On the same date, game enthusiast Terry (@Age1000) asked the studio in a tweet if they had any interest in remastering "Burnout Paradise" for the current generation consoles. Criterion replied in a tweet that they were very busy doing lots of new things to go back in time.

In terms of "Burnout Paradise" or "Revenge's" arrival to the Xbox One, Criterion also revealed details on its backwards compatibility. On Aug. 18, the studio tweeted that they had said in October that they had wanted "Paradise" available via backwards compatibility and that was still the plan. However, the Criterion pointed out that they no details on its release are present.

"Burnout" is a high-speed racing game noted especially for its spectacular crashes and risky gameplay mechanics. The games has a Championship mode as its main gameplay mode and players can unlock a Face Off challenge which lets players obtain a new car if they succeed.

Criterion Games and Acclaim Entertainment's "Burnout" was initially released for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube in Nov. 2001.
