Brooklyn Nets Trade News, Rumors: Joe Johnson on the Chopping Block?

The Brooklyn Nets continue to look to unload some of their three major contracts; this time, the center of discussions is all-star shooting guard Joe Johnson, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.

According to league sources, the Charlotte Hornets, who were previously in talks with the Nets in a potential three-team trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, are now looking into a package that would likely involve guards Lance Stephenson, and Gerald Anderson, along with forward Marvin Williams.

The Nets have recently fallen out of the playoff race by losing eight of their last 10 games. While they do not have the incentive of drafting a blue chip player, as they have dealt their first round picks for the next three years, the Nets may be looking at a full rebuild through free agency.

The 33-year-old Johnson, averaging 15 points per game, will be earning $23.1 million this season, and $24.9 in 2015-2016, the last year of his contract. He is currently out of action with tendinitis.

Hornets principal owner and chairman Michael Jordan is reportedly intrigued with the possibility of adding Johnson into the mix of his team, currently holding on the eight seed in the Eastern Conference.

Despite Johnson having a sub-par year scoring, he should help the Charlotte offense currently ranking 28th in the league in efficiency.

The Hornets recently lost guard Kemba Walker to a torn lateral meniscus. The guard, who is averaging 18.8 points and 5.2 assists this season, is expected to be out up to six weeks.

The Nets, for their part, would get an added boost after losing Mirza Teletovic for the season. Landing the trio of Stephenson, Williams, and Henderson would also allow the Nets more flexibility for future deals.

The Nets have been unable to find suitable trade partners for injured guard Deron Williams, but are now reportedly shopping Brook Lopez again, this time with the Denver Nuggets, Wojnarowski reports.
