'Bridge of Spies' New Trailer News: Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg Tackle the Cold War

Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and war movies has proven to be a winning formula, what with their WWII movie Saving Private Ryan breaking international box offices and swooping off with multiple awards, so they are doing it again, this time taking on the Cold War's spy-vs.-spy politics.

Set in Brooklyn atthe height of the Cold War, the non-fictional Bridge of Spies sees Hanks portraying James Donovan, a Brooklyn insurance lawyer who puts his and his family's lives and reputations on the line to defend Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance), a Soviet spy.

Donovan is later requested by the U.S. government to barter a swap to bring back American U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) who was captured in East Berlin.

Viewers have already been teased by one trailer, and now the recently released second teaser shows the public persecution Donovan and his family went through as he does his unenviable job.

The trailer shows the family at the dinner table: "Do you know how people will look at us - the family of the man trying to free a traitor?" Donovan is asked by his wife (Amy Ryan).

The focal story of the trailer is a tale Abel tells Donovan involving his father's friend who was constantly beaten by border guards.

"Every time they hit him, he stood back up again," Abel recounts. "They hit him harder - still he got back to his feet."

Donovan asks, "And I remind you of him?" to which Abel replies, "Standing man."

Penned by the indomitable Coen brothers and screenwriter Matt Charman, the film is co-produced by Spielberg, Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger for DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures.

It also stars Scott Shepherd, Sebastian Koch and Alan Alda.

Bridge of Spies will hit cinemas on Oct. 16.
