NFL HOF 2015 News: Brett Favre & Terrell Owens Headline 2016 Hall of Fame Nominees

Quarterback Brett Favre and wide receiver Terrell Owens have been added Wednesday by the Pro Football Hall of Fame to the list of first-time nominees. As noted by CBSSports.com, the addition of the two big names makes the group of 10 first-time 2016 Hall of Fame nominees, which include names like Alan Faneca and Lawyer Milloy, that much more star-studded.

The other first-time nominees are Clinton Portis, Brian Westbrook, Keith Bulluck, Mike Vrabel, Darren Sharper, John Carney and Ethan Albright.

As highlighted by the report, Favre retired as the all-time leader in a number of categories after spending most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, while also having stints with the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. He is considered as a lock to be a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection.

Owens, for his part, is thought to be a more interesting case as there exists a backlog of wide receivers looking to get voted in the Hall of Fame. Some of the names that have been waiting for their turn to get into Canton are Marvin Harrison (2015 finalist), Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Sterling Sharp, Jimmy Smith and Rod Smith.

Will Brinson of CBSSports.com opines that with his history of off-field antics, Owens might have to wait at least a year (and possibly two if Randy Moss stay retired) before getting into the Hall of Fame.

The report also points out that Faneca and Miloy also have an uphill climb into Canton with a number of offensive linemen and defensive backs also looking to get into the Hall of Fame. Orlando Pace and John Lynch are among the notable finalists in 2015.

Brinson also notes that while coupling quarterbacks isn't exactly the norm, there's a good chance that Favre along with Kurt Warner end up getting enshrined in the Hall of Fame when the 2016 class is announced.
