Brennan Manning: Iconic Christian Author of 'the Ragamuffin Gospel' Dies

Respected Christian author Brennan Manning passed away yesterday.  Manning is most well known for his book, 'The Ragamuffin Gospel'.  His authentic way of writing and honest dependance on God was always refreshing and inspiring for everyone to read.  'All is Grace' is Mannings memoir that came out a few years back.

These were some of Manning's most famous and profound words that have been quoted again and again. "The greatest cause of atheism today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips & deny Him by their lifestyle." - Brennan Manning

Dc Talk's song, "What if I stumble" was inspired by the words of Manning.

Words of sympathy have hit social media since the news of Manning's passing.

TobyMac on twitter/instagram: "@therealtobymac Friend and Inspiring writer Brennan Manning will be dearly missed.  Rest in His presence now my dear brother."  (posted is a picture of Manning's book, 'The Ragamuffin Gospel')

Andrew Peterson on twitter "@andrewpeterson RIP, Brennan Manning. Spent a wknd  w/ him in 2000, & can still hear his thundering voice: "God loves you as you are, not as you should be."

Donald Miller on twitter "@donaldmiller Brennan Manning was scandalous the way Christ was scandalous. The grace he taught was just as controversial. It still is."

Breean Manning was born on April 27, 1934 and was born and raised in New York City.

In the 1970s, Manning returned to the United States and began writing after confronting his alcoholism.  Singer-songwriter Rich Mullins called his band A Ragamuffin Band after one of Manning's books.  Warren Barfield's music is also often inspired by Manning, as is the work of singer-songwriter Matthew Perryman Jones.

Manning was an authentic writer and we can always use more of those in our life.
