Boxing News 2015: Manny Pacquiao Wants to Fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. Again
Recently, Manny Pacquiao, a former eight-division champion and Filipino law maker, was in Japan to lend a hand to the Philippines in the country's bid to host the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which they eventually lost to China. In an interview with Fightnews, Pacquiao has articulated his desire for a rematch against his arch rival Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Christian Today reports that three months have lapsed since Pacquiao and Mayweather met on the ring on May 2 for the richest fight in the history of professional boxing. The bout went the way of the undefeated champion Mayweather Jr. via unanimous decision.
However, most boxing fans felt let down with the bout as Mayweather used an excellent defensive strategy, while Pacquiao fought with an injured shoulder.
In the recent interview with Fightnews, the 36-year-old Filipino boxer talked about his shoulder injury, the way his last fight with Mayweather went, and that he wants a rematch.
When asked about his shoulder injury Pacquiao was rotating his shoulder and said he did not have any problems with it now.
When Pacquiao was asked for a review of his fight against the top pound-for-pound champion, he answered, "He was running away all the time. I was making the fight by stalking him and believe that I deserved a victory."
Meanwhile, when asked about his future plans, the Filipino boxing icon affirmed that he plans to focus on his duties as a congressman in the Philippines and is seeking a rematch with Mayweather.
Talking about a possible rematch with Mayweather, Picquiao said, "I'll be ready for that mentally and physically next year. I'll show a better performance against him than in the first encounter."
However, as of now, Pacquiao will have to wait along with other top contenders or he may never have another shot again. Mayweather already selected an opponent for perhaps the final fight of his career on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Andre Berto is the fortunate boxer who was selected by Mayweather to be his last opponent. Mayweather believes Berto is an exciting boxer who deserves a title shot.
