'Bourne 5' News, Rumors, Trailer: Matt Damon Explains Why The Film Title Is Different From Its Predecessors
Along with revealing that the upcoming action thriller film sequel "Jason Bourne" is set to have some war ideologies, lead star Matt Damon has also revealed the reason behind the current title of the film.
Damon plays the titular character in the film. In his interview with Empire, he explained that initially, they were planning to use the title "The Bourne Something," to be parallel with the previous titles of the film. However, Bourne's complex nature allowed them to shift their thoughts and use a different title format.
In the interview, Damon said that they had talked about called the film "The Bourne Something," but he thought the idea had been to separate the film from the others, meaning from its predecessors. The actor also said that the upcoming film was really about identity and his character's search for identity, adding that at the conclusion of the third one, he said that he was no longer Bourne.
According to Damon, the new film started with the implications of who Bourne was, adding that the title would make more sensible when the person saw the film. For the actor, it had felt right, since it had felt pertinent to the story they had been telling and also different from the others in the right way.
Damon also told Buzz Feed News the elements that fans can assume from the film. The actor said that instead of just three arenas of warfare, such as land, water, and sea, he added the fourth element, which was cyber. According to Damon, the cyber element had huge implications in the film.
Meanwhile, "Jason Bourne" director Paul Greengrass also shared his thoughts on what fans can expect from his upcoming film sequel. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Greengrass said that Bourne had been active and had been doing hard physical work, adding that the character was not definitely sunning himself on the beach.
According to Greengrass, one did not make a film unless he was 1000 percent committed to make the best movie they could and one did not make that kind of film unless one thought it could be a worthy successor to the other films they had made.
For Greengrass, the "Jason Bourne" shape had been a "segment of intent."
Aside from Damon, the film also stars Marla Aaron Wapner, Neve Gachev, Riz Ahmed, Ato Essandoh, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, Julia Stiles, and Alicia Vikander.
Greengrass' "Jason Bourne" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 29. Watch the trailer here.
