Boston Marathon Bombing Movie News: Mark Wahlberg to Produce CBS Films Entitled ‘Patriots’ Day’
Actor, producer and model Mark Wahlberg, together with three others - Michael Radutzky, Stephen Levinson and Dylan Clark, have just announced that they will produce a movie based on the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. The working title of the movie is 'Patriots' Day' and it will be produced for CBS Films.
IB Times reports that the announcement was made at a time when the trial is in progress for the surviving Boston Marathon Bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. As of now, jury deliberations are scheduled to commence on Monday, April 6. 'Patriots' Day' will be the second movie on the subject of the Boston Marathon Bombing. Currently, another movie, Daniel Espinosa's 'Boston Strong,' is in the works.
Currently, Matt Charman of 'Bridge of Spies' fame is working on a screenplay accounting the story of Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis since he was the one who dealt with the bombings and the ensuing city-wide manhunt to nab the suspected culprits. In fact, Davis has worked with the FBI, Watertown Police Department, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police as well as local first responders during the course of the investigation, including imposing an area shutdown close to Watertown, Massachusetts, where Dzhokhar escaped to following a gunfight with police that killed his brother, Tamerlan.
While the producers have not announced the name of the director or cast, Variety reports that producer Mark Wahlberg may possibly step into an on-screen role.
In fact, this is not the first time that Wahlberg serving as a producer. Earlier, he produced successful TV projects like 'Entourage' and 'Boardwalk Empire.'
A native of Boston, earlier Wahlberg portrayed characters from Boston in movies like 'The Departed,' 'The Fighter' and 'Ted.' His superhit roles in 'Boogie Nights' as well as 'Three Kings' have taken the actor away from his Dorchester roots. Nevertheless, he has recently returned to film the sequel to Seth McFarlane's 'Ted 2.'
For the uninitiated, Patriots' Day is a recognized holiday in the state of Massachusetts and is celebrated on the third Monday in April to honor Battles of Lexington and Concord of the American Revolution. The Boston Marathon took place on Patriots' Day since it began in 1897.
