'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' Update, News: Upcoming Film to be Final Installment of ‘Naruto’ Franchise?

Since its premiere in Japan on Aug. 7 this year, the 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' is said to have earned more than $16.8 million, making it the most successful film in the 'Naruto' franchise. Hence, it would have tempted the studios to go ahead and make a sequel to the hit film. However, this may not be the case.

In a report in Anime News Network, 'Naruto' series creator Masashi Kishimoto has revealed that he will take a break from the strain of working on 'Naruto.' He further said that now he plans to move forward with his new series. Nevertheless, the new series will not be published every week as "Naruto" was, mainly owing to the muscle strain involved in producing new issues on a weekly basis.

Kishimoto explained, "I've already decided what I'm going to write about in my next work." He went on to add, "I'm thinking of writing a science-fiction work. I've already finalized the character designs. I think the protagonist is one that hasn't been seen before in manga, and while it's me saying it, I think that the character is done very well."

In fact, Kishimoto had ended the "Naruto" manga officially following 15 years of nonstop serialization, with several spin-off titles like "Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring." At the same time, he also served as the chief production supervisor for "Boruto: Naruto the Movie."

Meanwhile, 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' will be officially released select U.S. theaters from Oct. 10. Anime News Network has an official list of all the theaters where the film will be screened. Pirated versions of 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie'have already managed to surface online, but in spite of this, the film continues to be a financial steamrolled, already surpassing the $16 million earned by 'The Last: Naruto the Movie' during its run in Japan.

Hence, 'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' concludes the series, as it focuses on Naruto's son Boruto (Bolt in the English dub) and Sasuke's daughter Sarada as they pass out from the academy and turn into full-fledged ninjas.
